I dreamed a dream

This is Susan Boyle. She was featured in Britain's Got Talent back in 2009. She was 47 years old then. When she went on stage during the first audition, the spectators and the judges, especially Simon Cowell, jeered at her. She had white hair, clumsy teeth and she looked old. She was asked "What's your dream?" and she said "I was trying to be a professional singer"...and she dreamed to be like Elaine Page. So she sang "I dreamed a dream"...The judges were appalled and so was everyone else. Everyone started to cheer up to her and she finally got a standing ovation!

One of the judges, Amanda, quippped that they were being cynical at the beginning and that it was a wake up call, upon hearing Susan's singing. Susan went on the to finals but she didn't win the competition. However, she went on to become famous. Later in one of her shows, she was paired to sing with her idol - Elaine Page. Susan became an inspiration to a lot more people in her homeland and all throughout America.

This is Lee DeWyze. He's just 24, born on April 2, 1986. He never graduated from high school. So he became a paint store salesman on and off since he was 15. He went to the audition of American Idol season 5much to the persuasion of his close friend. Then he went on to the finals....and yeah, he's the latest American Idol! An adorable guy, who all the while remained as down-to-earth as he was and yet holding on to his dream.

Crystal Bowersox is a single-mother, born on Aug 4, 1985. She hailed from Ohio. Spent her early days as a bustler in several train stations when she was living in Chicago. She went on the American Idol becoming the first female contestant to make it to the finals after 2007.

Martin Luther King Jr., born in 1929 was an African-American activist. His famous speech "I have a dream" delivered back in 1963, remembered until today as a symbol of inspiration to many people.

What do all these people have in common? They have a DREAM....not JUST a dream. They dreamt of becoming someone better and they went on to pursue their dreams. Even though people like Susan and Crystal didn't win anything, but they sure did win the hearts of many, for they have inspired others with their perseverance.

Do we dare to dream...? Do we dare to dream big?? Datuk Seri Idris Jala once said, "Set an olympic target...Even if you fail, it's still okay because you have done the impossible".

DREAM here doesn't mean 'mimpi' in Malay...but it means 'impian'...Apakah impian anda?
